U18 verliert erstes Heimspiel

Last night was the first home match that the boys from Haspe 70 U18 were looking forward to against the strong team from Bochum, AstroStars. With the support of the experienced U16-1 Haspe 70 coach, Mahmut, the players were very confident to withstand the physical dominance of their opponents.

This was proven in the first quarter. With a 1-3-1 defensive game, the starters, namely Jan, Lukas, Beni, Paul and Niklas, succeeded in making the opponent careless. Several passes from the opponent were intercepted and made the boys from Bochum make several turnovers. Final score 15 – 25 in favor of AstroStars.

With a fairly good defensive game in the first quarter, coach Mahmut instructed his players to be more aggressive and confident in taking open shot 2 & 3 points. This was proven by the entry of several 3-pointers through Jan and the U16-1 player, Niklas. In that quarter, Haspe scored 28 points. However, the players from AstroStars were able to stay ahead because of the many offensive rebounds which they could convert to points for them. Final score in quarter 2 43:53 for Bochum.

In the 3rd quarter, 70er started lost their focus on maintaining a point distance from their opponent. The opponents started to put pressured by playing man to man full court. It resulted a few turn overs and also could out scored us by 28 points. The Hasper had no answer to it and the bad situation stayed up until the 4th quarter come to an end.
