Tough loss at home for H1

SV70- BSG

60:91 (33:41)

The men of Haspe came up short today against league leading Grevenbroich. We did some good things, but I knew it would take a perfect game to beat Grevenbroich. I thought our offense would have to be good and we would have to score in the 80s to have a chance. We showed against Dusseldorf that we are capable of playing good basketball, but are still trying to find that consistency that it takes to compete in the league. With 5 new players on this year team, we still learning each other and still need more time before we are where we want to be.

In the first quarter the guest came out and had their best shooting quarter of the season from outside. Making 5 of their 8 shots from 3. Known for their strong inside play we wanted to make them shoot more from outside. Grevenbroich is clearly one of the top teams in the league and showed they can do a little bit of everything. Still at half time it was only an 8 point difference 33:41. We had open shots, but they just did not fall. I thought for sure after half time we would shoot the ball better, but again luck was not on our side.

After half time, we still could not make a shot and often took quick bad shots which lead to easy lay ups and dunks for the visitors. Soon they prove to be too strong for us as we missed shots and they continued to make their shots. Against such a big and physical team, we need to be just as physical and we could not do it. Rebounds was another area the Grevenbroich proved they was too strong for us. The won rebounding 39:56, a lot because we just could not make a shot. Soon the lead grew higher and our ball movement stop. We started to go 1 on 1 and often it lead to bad shots and bad offense.

I still think it is too early to worry about the season. We lost to a really good Herten team with more experience and a really good Grevenbroich team that as always hoping to win the league. We still have a lot of work to do, but we also at this point is not the team we will be. We will continue to work, the guys will get better, I will get more experience and we will play better basketball. The best is still yet to come.

Scoring: Lewis 21, Fouhy 15, Kiknadze 10, Bampoulis 5, Paulsen 4, Braun 3, Spitale 3, Stockey, L.Braun, Micanovic, Toptan
